چکیده
Ester compounds are widely used in applications such as solvents, plasticizers, polymers, lubricants, cosmetics, medicinals, agrochemicals, soaps and other surface active agents, to mention a few. In many of these applications the simultaneous knowledge of the phase behavior and interfacial properties is an advantage for designing better products and improved processes. The van der Waals density gradient theory is an interesting theory providing such information. In this work it is applied for the first time to compute the surface tension of esters in a broad temperature range. A total of 37 ester compounds were evaluated, including formates, acetates, methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl and unsaturated methyl esters. sters radient theory urface tension For calculating the Helmholtz energy density and the bulk properties, the cubic-plus-association equation of state was used. It is demonstrated that ester surface tensions can be estimated within 1.5% deviation to the experimental data using a simple correlation for the temperature dependence of the gradient theory influence parameter. Whenever the influence parameters are considered to be temperature independent only slightly higher deviations, below 5%, were obtained. The results suggest that the proposed methodology can be a valuable tool for modeling surface and ers an interfacial tensions of est

Lennard-Jones Energy Parameter for Pure Fluids from Scaled Particle Theory
By considering the fact that the surface tension of a real fluid arises from a combination of both repulsive and attractive forces between molecules, a new expression for the interfacial tension has been derived from scaled particle theory (SPT) based on the work of cavity formation and the interaction energy between molecules. At the critical temperature, the interfacial tension between c...
متن کاملModified Equation of State Applied to Refrigerants: Part II
The present work is the successful extension of an improved equation of state (EOS) to refrigerant fluids. The objective is the prediction of isothermal and saturated liquid densities of refrigerants. Two temperature-independent parameters appearing in the modified EOS are closely related to critical point properties of refrigerant fluids. Our results showed that, the proposed EOS can predict w...
متن کاملApplying the PR-EOS to Predict the Onset of Asphaltene Precipitation from n-Alkane Diluted Bitumens
Asphaltenes are the n-pentane or n-heptane insoluble fractions of crude oil that remain in solution under reservoir temperature and pressure conditions. They are destabilized and start to precipitate when the pressure, temperature and/or composition changes occur during primary production. The precipitated asphaltene particles will then grow in size and may start to deposit onto the product...
متن کاملA self-consistent approach for modelling the interfacial properties and phase diagrams of Yukawa, Lennard-Jones and square-well fluids
A self-consistent density-functional approach is presented for describing the phase behaviour and interfacial tensions of van der Waals fluids represented by the hard-core Yukawa (HCY), Lennard-Jones (LJ) and square-well (SW) potentials. The excess Helmholtz energy functional is formulated in terms of a modified fundamental measure theory (MFMT) for the shortranged repulsion and a density-gradi...
متن کاملComparison of Two Kinds of Functionally Graded Cylindrical Shells with Various Volume Fraction Laws for Vibration Analysis
In this paper, a study on the vibration of thin cylindrical shells made of a functionally gradient material (FGM) composed of stainless steel and nickel is presented. The effects of the FGM configuration are taken into account by studying the frequencies of two FG cylindrical shells. Type I FG cylindrical shell has nickel on its inner surface and stainless steel on its outer surface and Type II...
